GENTING: Community Foster Parent Movement to Prevent Stunting in Kertasari
Stunting rates in West Sumbawa Regency have risen to 18.02% in 2024, prompting DP2KBP3A to launch GENTING (Gerakan Orang Tua Asuh Cegah Stunting)—a targeted support program for 33 at-risk families in Labuhan Kertasari Village. The program focuses on pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and children aged 0–23 months.
Program Highlights
Foster Parents provide ready-to-eat meals or raw ingredients valued at Rp 15,000–20,000 per person per day for 30 days.
Assistance is distributed directly or through local groups like Kampung KB (Family Plannted Village), DASHAT (Dapur Sehat Atasi Stunting), and TPK (Tim Pendamping Keluarga), with PKB (Penyuluh Keluarga Berencana) officers monitoring progress.
Key parenting education takes place at LoA Field, supported with traditional snacks and water from Living on Air.
Living on Air’s Commitment
For the first time, the community is partnering with the private sector due to government budget constraints. Living on Air (Kasvu Labs) is funding the program for six months, supported by Finn Partnership.
Previous interventions have successfully reduced stunting cases in Kertasari from 28 (2022) to 12 (2025).

Field Insights
Family meetings highlight recurring issues such as poor appetite, frequent infections, exposure to smoke, malnutrition in mothers, and inconsistent feeding patterns. Health workers emphasize one key message:
“Effective parenting practices are essential to preventing stunting.”
A new solution—communal kitchen meals with a rotating schedule—is being introduced to help children eat consistently and nutritionally.

Moving Forward
With multi-stakeholder collaboration, education, and consistent support, GENTING aims to continue lowering stunting rates and strengthen the health of children in Kertasari.
